What's next at Lanternhouse

Spring 2012

We have an exciting programme planned for Spring 2012.

Artist Sumit Sarkar is in Lanternhouse this week (Monday 30th January to Sunday 5th February.

Sumit will be working with Bob Fisher to create a metal sculpture commissioned by Blackburn Youth Zone, to commemorate the opening of its new building.  Using metal, a plasma cutter and welding tools, they will create a plaque that spells out the word 'Spark' in Sumit's imitable techno organic graffiti style.

We continue to have the Gardening Project take place as part of our series of work: Growing Together.

This project is a continuation of last year's Gardening Project with artist Ellie Chaney working with the Ulverston Adult Day Service User Group.

The group meet monthly to work in the garden and learn about growing plants. Please see the following blog link about the project: http://thesensorygarden.wordpress.com.

Sue Fletcher is also hosting events for a Signing Choir at Lanternhouse from Wednesday 18 January as part of the Growing Together project.

The choir will use both British Sign Language and the Makaton system. Makaton is a communication system that "is designed to help hearing people with learning and communication difficulties. In the UK, Makaton is based around British Sign Language. Makaton also uses speech alongside signing".

We continue with our selection of Matinee Films at Lanternhouse on Tuesday 31 January as part of the Growing Together project.

This month's film is The Searchers. A classic, widescreen Western starring John Wayne and Natalie Wood. The films shows from 2pm, suggested donation of £3.
