Bill is joining us for a two week residency between 21 November and 2 December
We are pleased to announce that artist Ellie Rees will be joining us as artist in residence from Mon 10 October to Mon 24 October. Ellie will be using her time at Lanternhouse as a period of research and development for a project about female artists who do and don't have children.
New Work Network member Jon Fawcett has been selected to take on the two week residency offered by New Work Network in association with Lanternhouse. Based around research into Unified Field Theory and science-alchemy related conspiracy theories, as well as other materials-based alternative science/tech, he is exploring the idea of de-romanticised magic (with implicit socio-political implications).
After an 18-month absence, Autumn Richardson and Richard Skelton return to Cumbria to continue their research into the topography, place-names, history and ecology of Ulpha, near the Duddon Valley. The artists will be delving into the local archives in the hope of uncovering the hidden narratives and forgotten histories of this sublimely beautiful landscape.
Cumbria Remixed is a sound project using digital technologies to investigate and remix the soundscape of Cumbria. It will look at creating a lively dialogue between old and new, young and old through field recordings of Cumbrian environments, and Cumbrian people’s tales, tunes, stories and songs. Shaun will use digital technology to remix and remould our environment and our stories to create a sound resource for creating new soundscapes and songs.
Hafsah Naib is a Manchester based artist. In 2008-9 Hafsah showcased a work called ‘TV’ at the Castlefield Gallery. In 2010 as part of the Futureverything festival Hafsah was artist in residence at the Cornerhouse, Manchester. She created a piece of collaborative work called ‘Breathing With You’. This work involved Hafsah initiating a range of creative encounters with exhibition visitors to produce an online book. Themes she explores in her work include self and other, collective and individual, and public versus private space. We welcome Hafsah to Lanternhouse, and as her research and development takes shape over early 2011 we will keep you posted about it.
Having already joined us in 2010, Lorrice is back this year to develop her work. Lorrice's research is inspired by social history and those references (or narratives) are embodied through objects and spaces, rather like an installation in a museum or a stage set for theatre. Whilst at Lanternhouse she is researching locations and speaking to people about buildings and domestic interiors which hold a particular resonance for them. Experiences so far include visits to a beloved workshop in an Edwardian house in Ulverston and a remarkable shop in Millom.
Artist in residence Rebecca is a writer and musician, whose work frequently crosses the lines between theatre, poetry, music and performance.
Lanternhouse and folly are delighted to announce 2010's FLI artist in residence. We welcome Will Scrimshaw to Ulverston during the last three months of 2010, where he will engage and work in collaboration with a range of local and regional communities.
Naomi will be hosting the Stationary Orchestra working in partnership with Cumbria Library Services. Several events led by Naomi will take place this March here at Lanternhouse and in Kendal Library where people can work with Naomi to make music from pencils, pens, and all sorts of stationary. More information to follow.
