He plays Ethan Edwards, an ex-Confederate soldier whose brother and sister-in-law are killed by Comanches.
Ethan obsessively searches for a surviving niece (played by Natalie Wood) but has to face up to his own blind hatred and racism and discover his humanity.
Undoubtedly one of the great Westerns, beautifully shot in Monument Valley, California.
